We are seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Advisor to join our team. The H & S advisor will promote, drive and enhance a culture focused on health, safety, and environmental compliance. They’ll be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety policies to create a safe working environment for all our team. Both at our manufacturing sites in Cleckheaton (BD19 3QF), Braford (BD5 8SW) and the Head Office in Leeds (LS12 6NJ).

This is a hands-on role which will help drive Pure Pet Foods promise to champion Paws (dogs) and People through the enhancement of workplace health & wellbeing.

Duties and responsibilities of the role are:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor workplace H&S policies and procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and site inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant H&S legislation, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Implement and carry out internal H&S audits.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports. Support corrective actions.
  • Deliver H&S training sessions and toolbox talks for employees. Maintain H&S training matrix.
  • Maintain accurate H&S inspections, incidents, and audits.
  • Develop and maintain emergency procedures and conduct drills.
  • Carry out routine testing of / arrange service of relevant H&S equipment (sensors, alarms, extinguishers etc.).
  • Collaborate with management to promote a strong H&S culture across the organization.
  • Provide guidance on personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper usage.
  • Liaise with relevant regulatory bodies and ensure timely reporting of compliance matters.
  • Implement and chair frequent H&S meetings with relevant factory leadership team members.
  • Continuously challenge and improve the H&S standards.
  • Overlook Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules and ensure timely completion.
  • Schedule and coordinate service visits for equipment, inspections, and compliance checks.

It’s essential that you have:

  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent qualification in Health and Safety. NEBOSH Certificate is preferred.
  • Proven experience in a health and safety role, preferably in in a food manufacturing or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels.
  • Ability to analyse risks and implement practical safety solutions.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and health & safety management software (if applicable).
  • First Aid and Fire Safety certification (preferred but not mandatory).
