Quality Assurance Operative (QA) - Part Time - 20 hours per week (PM shift)

The role

Our QA’s play an essential role here at Pure Pet Food. Each day 1000’s of individual customer orders are produced, picked and packed ready for daily distribution. All from our dry and non-refrigerated factory site located in Cleckheaton. Maintaining our high levels of customer service is essential and our QA’s ability to assure the expected level of food safety, quality, legality and health & safety is maintained across the factory goes a long way in achieving this.

The role prioritises Food Safety, Quality and Legality + H&S with additional compliance responsibilities.

Under the direction of the Head of Compliance, you’ll be supporting the day-to-day activities of the company’s compliance department and developing the production team in terms of quality assurance, food safety and hygiene.

We are flexible with your start time as long as you can work during our PM shift, between 2pm & 10pm, Monday to Friday.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ensure the company’s Quality Management System is up to date and processes and procedures are being adhered to.
  • Ensure compliance with SALSA and other relevant standards.
  • Working together with Shift Managers and Team Leaders to assess product problems and agree on solutions
  • Checking that raw materials, packaging and other product components involved in the production process are of suitable quality.
  • Ensure production records are completed accurately and in real time.
  • Ensure Critical Control Points are adhered to and any food safety issues are raised immediately with the Head of Compliance and Head of Operations.
  • Ensure a “Clean as You Go” mentality is instilled within your team around housekeeping.
  • Inspecting production machinery, process steps and employees to make sure the production process runs smoothly.
  • Carry out environmental monitoring test swabs.
  • Carry out organoleptic assessments on finished products.
  • Reporting defects discovered to all relevant departments for correction.
  • Investigating causes of defects.
  • Support the site during external audits.
  • Carry out internal system audits.
  • Monitor quarantined products both physically and on the system.
  • Support training of employees, including induction.
  • Collecting and distributing samples for testing.
  • Effectively communicate with operations and management to drive compliance to quality standards and continuous improvement.
  • Perform various quality assurance testing on both raw and finished products.
  • Review and audit hygiene and operational practices, procedures and document completion and report findings to Head of Compliance.
  • Monitor pest control program through outside licensed agency.
  • Review with Head of Compliance all customer complaints, support complaint investigations, including root cause analysis.
  • Carrying out internal audits, such as GMP/hygiene audit, glass plastic audit, CCP audit.
  • Ensure Health & Safety is everyone’s top priority.
  • Ensure any Health & Safety issues are raised immediately to your manager.
  • Support Health & Safety team with near-miss reporting (raising and processing).
  • Demonstrate a positive can-do attitude with a mindset of continuous improvement and strong work ethic.

It’s essential that you:

  • Experience within a food production environment

It'd be great if you:

  • Experience within a manufacturing role completing quality assurance / quality control tasks.
  • Food safety and/or HACCP qualification
